Some Like It Hot!

I love hot peppers, but I don't discriminate. I also like mild ones like the good old bell's. Here are
some of the peppers my garden produced this year; cayenne, jalapeno and bell.

Peppers!

My pepper plants have been on production overload! These are the serrano peppers, but the cayenne are coming in too. They taste great! I encourage everyone out there to try growing your own. If I can do it, anyone can! All I did was water them, and I didn't even do that every day. ;)

Graduation Day!

Are you humming pomp and circumstance in your head yet? I think I hummed that song the entire last semester of college because I was so excited to finally be done with school. And now every time I hear the word "graduation" that song just starts playing in my head. Today what began as tiny seeds pressed into a little bag of dirt found themselves transported into the big outside world. Yes, my little seedlings from Garden in a Bag get to spread their roots in large, colorful pots on my back deck. I was so proud! Mostly because I managed to keep them alive this long. Now the true test begins. Hopefully they will flourish in the outside world.

Garden in a Bag - Update #2

Grow, grow, grow! The cilantro and Italian parsley have really taken off, but the basil is lagging a little behind. This is week 4 since they've been planted and the bag says about 7-10 weeks before I will have anything to harvest. So, a little bit longer to wait.

Garden in a Bag - Update #1

We have growth!! The basil and cilantro have sprouted and the parsley looks like it really wants to, so maybe in the next day or so. I've now removed the plastic, per the instructions, and placed them in the window sill in my kitchen. Let's hope the growing continues!

Garden in a Bag

Herbs. I love them! Especially fresh herbs. Last year was the first time I grew my own. It is so much cheaper than buying them at the store. I had cilantro and basil last year. This year I came across little brown bags called Garden in a Bag. Basically you get a little bag filled with soil and seeds. You let the plants sprout, root and grow in the bag and then move them to larger pots when needed. I just loved that I could put these on my kitchen counter and soon I will have fresh herbs. Well, hopefully I will have fresh herbs. First we will have to see if these little Garden in a Bag products actually work. This will be my little spring project.

The first step is to plant the seeds in the soil and cover the bag with plastic. You are supposed to sit the bag in a warm place out of direct sunlight. It says the plants should sprout within 7 to 10 days. We shall see. Stay tuned...
